Nestled beyond the towering Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs in central Nepal lies the mystical region of Mustang, often referred to as the "Hidden Kingdom." This isolated, arid plateau is part of the Tibetan highlands and has remained largely untouched by the outside world for centuries. Mustang is home to ancient 16th-century monasteries, vibrant frescoes, sacred thankas, and statues of mighty deities, which preserve its rich cultural heritage and spiritual traditions.

The landscape of Mustang is dominated by vast barley fields and pastures that serve as grazing grounds for local herds. Situated along the upper reaches of the Kali Gandaki River, this region has long captivated trekkers with its dramatic, moon-like terrain. The Mustang Trek, once a restricted area, opened to trekkers in 1992 and remains one of the most remarkable destinations in Nepal.

The trekking route offers awe-inspiring views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, with peaks like Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters/26,795 feet) and Annapurna I (8,091 meters/26,545 feet) standing tall. Trekking in Mustang takes you through valleys and villages where life follows centuries-old traditions, all set against the backdrop of rugged, towering mountains. The trek is a rewarding blend of cultural immersion and natural beauty.

Since Mustang is a restricted area, trekkers must obtain a special permit and travel with a government-appointed liaison officer.

Trek Highlights:

  • Spectacular mountain views, including Dhaulagiri and Annapurna I.
  • Rich Tibetan Buddhist culture and centuries-old monasteries.
  • Journey through a remote, untouched region of Nepal.

Trekking Elevation Range: 2,815 meters (9,233 feet) to 3,780 meters (12,398 feet)
