Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you'll begin your journey with a visit to Drugyel Dzong, offering views of Chomolhari Mountain, followed by a hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, or Tiger’s Nest. After exploring Paro, you'll embark on a scenic trek, starting with Jele Dzong and continuing through beautiful alpine forests, past lakes like Jimilangtso and Simkota, and across rugged terrain to Phajoding. The trek concludes with a descent into Thimphu, where you’ll visit cultural landmarks such as Tashichho Dzong, the Memorial Chorten, and Simtokha Dzong. A day trip to Punakha and Wangdi will give you a chance to explore the former capitals and the impressive Punakha Dzong before returning to Paro for your departure.

Detailed itinerary

Arrive at Paro International Airport by Druk Air and transfer to your hotel.

Drive to Drugyel Dzong, a historic fortress offering views of Chomolhari Mountain. Visit a Bhutanese farmhouse and enjoy a relaxing walk in preparation for the Taktsang excursion.

Hike to Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger's Nest, perched on a cliff 4000 ft. above the valley. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the Taktsang Cafeteria.

Embark on a short trek to Jele Dzong (7 km) at an altitude of 2576 meters, with beautiful views of Paro Valley and snowcapped mountains.

Trek through alpine forests and rhododendron trees to Jangchulakha (10 km, altitude 2879 meters), where you may encounter yaks and yak herders.

Trek to Jimilangtso (11 km) at an altitude of 3,485 meters. The area is known for its giant trouts, and you may have the chance to catch one for dinner.

Continue your trek to Simkota (11 km) near the lake, passing through rhododendron forests and yak herder camps. If lucky, try fishing for trout in Simkota Lake.

Trek 10 km to Phajoding at 2879 meters, with views of Mount Gangkhar Punsum, the highest peak in Bhutan. Continue downhill to the Phajoding Cafeteria for an overnight stay.

Descend through pine forests (8 km, altitude 2439 meters) to Thimphu, where you can relax, take a shower, and enjoy lunch at the hotel.

Visit Tashichho Dzong, the National Library, the Memorial Chorten, and Simtokha Dzong. Explore Bhutanese arts at the handicrafts emporium and traditional schools.

Take a full-day excursion to Punakha and Wangdi Valley, visiting Punakha Dzong and exploring the scenic rivers of Phochu and Mochu before returning to Thimphu.

Drive to Paro International Airport for your departure, concluding your Bhutan journey.
