Ganesh Himal is a sub-range of the greater Himalayan mountain range, located primarily in north-central Nepal, with some peaks extending along the Tibet border. It is situated approximately 70 km north-northwest of Kathmandu. The range is flanked by the Trisuli Gandaki valley to the east, which separates it from the Langtang Himal, while the Budhi Gandaki and Shyar Khola valleys mark its boundary with the Sringi Himal and Mansiri Himal, home to Manaslu, the closest 8,000m peak.

The highest peak in the Ganesh Himal range is Yangra (Ganesh I), towering at 7,422 meters (24,350 feet). Although none of its peaks surpass 7,500 meters, the range is known for its dramatic vertical relief over the surrounding valleys. Ganesh NW (Ganesh II or Ganesh III) is particularly notable for its prominence above the Shyar Khola valley.

The range derives its name from Lord Ganesha, the Hindu deity with an elephant head. Notably, the south face of Pabil (Ganesh IV) resembles an elephant’s face, with a ridge shaped like a trunk, further cementing the region’s mythological significance. The Ganesh Himal offers a combination of rugged peaks, pristine landscapes, and cultural richness, making it a fascinating region for trekking and mountaineering.
