Mount Kailash (6,714 m), also known as Tise, Kailasa, or Kang Rinpoche (Jewel of the Snows), has been revered across many Eastern cosmologies as Mt. Meru, the axis-mundi – the center of both the physical and metaphysical universe. The mountain holds profound significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bonpos. For Hindus, it is the seat of Lord Shiva, while for Buddhists, it represents a terrestrial projection of the cosmic mandala of the Dhyani Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. For pilgrims, the journey to Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar is the ultimate realization of their spiritual quest. For adventurers, it offers an extraordinary experience, with its rugged beauty, remote landscape, and serene solitude. The June tour coincides with the annual Buddhist festival of Saga Dawa, offering a vibrant cultural experience, while most other tours are scheduled to arrive during the full moon period, ensuring a unique and unforgettable journey. A pilgrimage to Kailash is truly a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience.

Detailed itinerary

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, where you will be greeted by our representative. You will be transferred to your hotel for check-in and briefed about the program. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for the upcoming journey.

Explore the rich cultural heritage of Kathmandu with visits to key landmarks such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Kathmandu Durbar Square, and the ancient Patan City. This day provides an opportunity to absorb the spiritual atmosphere of the valley, which is home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites.

After breakfast, begin your overland journey to Zhangmu. The drive takes you through scenic landscapes and winding mountain roads, with impressive views of the Himalayan range. Upon arrival in Zhangmu, check into your hotel for an overnight stay.

Continue your drive towards the serene Pigu Tso (Lake). The drive will take you through rugged terrain, offering captivating views of the Tibetan Plateau. Enjoy the breathtaking landscape as you settle in for an overnight stay at Pigu Tso.

Drive from Pigu Tso to Saga, passing through remote Tibetan landscapes and small Tibetan villages. Saga marks the entry point into the higher altitudes and closer to the sacred Mt. Kailash. After a long drive, relax in Saga for the night.

Travel from Saga to Paryang, following the dusty roads through the arid Tibetan countryside. Along the way, you will be treated to panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and distant hills. Overnight stay at Paryang.

Today’s journey takes you to Lake Mansarovar, one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. The lake holds immense spiritual significance, being a major pilgrimage site. Enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the area and take in the sacred beauty of the lake. Overnight stay near the lake.

Spend the day exploring the surroundings of Lake Mansarovar. This sacred lake is revered by Hindus and Buddhists alike. It is believed that a single dip in the waters of Mansarovar can cleanse one's sins. Spend time reflecting and soaking in the spiritual aura of this holy site.

After breakfast, drive to the starting point of Kailash Parikrama. The trek begins as you head towards Dira Puk, located at the foot of the mountain. The trail offers spectacular views of Mt. Kailash as you make your way through rugged terrain. Overnight at Dira Puk.

This is the most challenging day of the trek. You will cross the Dolma La Pass (5,630 m), the highest point of the Kailash Parikrama. After reaching the pass, descend into the valley and head towards Zuthul Puk, where you will stay for the night. The views throughout this day are nothing short of spectacular.

Complete the final stretch of the Kailash Parikrama and reach the end point near Darchen. This day marks the conclusion of the parikrama, but the spiritual and physical journey of Kailash remains unforgettable. Stay overnight in Darchen.

After completing the parikrama, return to Paryang by road, retracing the route through the Tibetan landscape. Relax and enjoy the scenic drive back to Paryang for an overnight stay.

Continue your drive back to Saga, once again traversing the beautiful Tibetan plateau. Reflect on the extraordinary experiences and landscapes as you make your way back to Saga for the night.

Drive from Saga to Pigu Tso, passing through remote Tibetan settlements and open grasslands. This leg of the journey offers a tranquil atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy the calmness of the Tibetan countryside. Stay overnight at Pigu Tso.
