Along the way, stops at historic towns like Gyantse and Shigatse provide a glimpse into Tibetan monastic life, with visits to the grand Tashilhunpo Monastery and the intricate Kumbum Stupa. Upon arrival in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for rest and acclimatization to the high altitude. Overnight stay in Lhasa.
Today, embark on a full-day sightseeing tour of Lhasa. Visit the iconic Potala Palace, the winter residence of the Dalai Lama, offering a blend of history, culture, and stunning architectural brilliance. Continue to Sera Monastery, the last of the three major Yellow Sect monasteries built in Lhasa, known for its unique monk debates. Conclude the day with a visit to Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, set amidst beautiful gardens. Overnight stay in Lhasa.
The day begins with a visit to Drepung Monastery, the largest and richest among the three major Yellow Sect monasteries. Explore the ancient Jokhang Temple, a revered site in Tibetan Buddhism, located in the old Tibetan quarter of Lhasa. Conclude the day at Barkhor Street, a vibrant marketplace that also serves as a significant pilgrim circuit around the Jokhang Temple. Overnight stay in Lhasa.
Today, embark on a scenic drive to Gyantse, the least Chinese-influenced city along the highway. The journey involves crossing two high mountain passes—Kamba La (4,785m/15,700ft) and Karo La (5,029m/16,500ft)—and follows the picturesque Yamdrok Tso Lake for over 40 miles. Upon arrival, check into the hotel and rest for the day. Overnight stay in Gyantse.
Explore the highlights of Gyantse, including the Pelkor Chode Monastery and the impressive Kumbum Stupa, a renowned multi-tiered structure. Take a rickshaw ride back to the parking area and proceed with a drive to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet. After checking in and refreshing at the hotel, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the principal seat of the Panchen Lama and an important spiritual center. Overnight stay in Shigatse.
Today’s drive to Tingri involves crossing two significant high passes—Yulung La (4,950m/16,236ft) and Gyatso La (5,220m/17,122ft). Enjoy breathtaking views of the Tibetan Plateau. Upon arrival in Tingri, check into the best available guesthouse and rest for the day. Overnight stay in Tingri.
Begin the trek across the Tingri plain, heading south toward Cho Oyu. Along the way, visit a small Gompa in the village of Chholung before reaching Lungthang, the last settlement in this part of the Tingri plains. Despite its barren surroundings, the village thrives on barley cultivation and livestock herding. Overnight camping in Lungthang.
The trekking adventure intensifies today as we ascend towards Langma La Pass (5,150m). Though the climb is challenging, the rewarding panoramic views of the Himalayas make it worthwhile. Overnight camping near the top of Langma La.
Start with a steep descent from Langma La towards Zommung. The vegetation here is noticeably lusher, supporting yak herding. The village of Zommung is the highest permanent settlement in the Everest region, offering stunning views of Mount Everest and Gyachung Kang. Overnight stay in Zommung.
Choose between a high or low-altitude route to reach the renowned Rongbuk Monastery, founded in 1901-02 by Dzatrul Ngawang Tenzin Norbu. The monastery is set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Everest, providing awe-inspiring views. Overnight stay near Rongbuk Monastery.
A short trek leads to Everest Base Camp, passing retreat caves, the ruins of Sherab Chholing Nunnery, and the fast-flowing Dzaka Chu River. The base camp offers unparalleled views of the Himalayan range and the stunning Rongbuk Glacier. Overnight stay at Everest Base Camp.
Depart from the Rongbuk valley, taking in the final views of Everest before rejoining the Friendship Highway. Drive over Pang La Pass (5,150m) before reaching Tingri. Overnight stay in a guesthouse.
Continue the drive along the Tibet-Nepal Friendship Highway, crossing the high twin passes of Lablung La (5,124m/16,806ft) and Tong La (5,120m/16,794ft). Enjoy stunning views of Mount Cho Oyu, Everest, and Shishapangma. Descend towards Nyalam and visit the Milarepa Cave if time permits before reaching Zhangmu. Overnight stay in Zhangmu.
Complete Chinese immigration formalities at Zhangmu and continue the descent to the Friendship Bridge, where a Nepalese guide and vehicle will take over. The drive to Kathmandu takes approximately 3 hours on smooth roads. If time permits, visit Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Explore Kathmandu’s cultural and historical landmarks, including Pashupatinath Temple (a sacred Hindu site), Boudhanath Stupa (one of the largest Buddhist stupas in Nepal), and the ancient cities of Bhaktapur and Patan. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
