Classification Challenging 7,000-meter peak; ideal for experienced climbers aiming to prepare for 8,000-meter expeditions

Tilicho Peak, standing at an impressive 7,134 meters, is a highly technical climb that challenges even experienced mountaineers. The ascent is known for its steep and icy slopes, requiring excellent climbing skills and proper acclimatization.

Approach to Base Camp

There are two routes to reach Tilicho Base Camp:

  1. Overland Route – The expedition begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar, followed by several days of trekking through scenic landscapes. This approach allows for better acclimatization and easier transportation of logistics.

  2. Air Route – A flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, followed by trekking towards Base Camp.

For this expedition, we take the overland route, ensuring gradual acclimatization and minimizing logistical difficulties.

Throughout the trek, adventurers witness breathtaking scenery, including the majestic Tilicho Peak towering above the tranquil Tilicho Lake, one of the highest glacial lakes in the world. The lake, devoid of marine life, is believed to hold marine fossils, reinforcing the theory that the Himalayas were once submerged under an ancient sea.

The Base Camp (4,400m) is set up near Tilicho Lake, where climbers rest and participate in a traditional Puja ceremony conducted by a Buddhist priest to seek blessings for a successful ascent. Tilicho Peak rises dramatically above the moraine, offering a challenging yet rewarding climb.

Climbing Route

  • Base Camp to Camp I (5,700m): Steep ascent (70º - 90º)

  • Camp I to Camp II (6,200m): Vertical ice wall (90º)

  • Camp II to Camp III & Summit (7,134m): Steep climb (40º - 70º) to the summit
