Dolpo is one of Nepal’s most remote and least explored trekking regions, offering an extraordinary journey through the heart of Shey Phoksundo National Park. Enclosed by the Dhaulagiri and Churen Himal ranges in the east and south and bordered by Jumla district to the west, this pristine area is home to breathtaking landscapes, ancient Tibetan-influenced culture, and fascinating biodiversity.

This trek takes you deep into the isolated Himalayan valleys, showcasing untouched snowy peaks, secluded villages, centuries-old Buddhist monasteries, and the mesmerizing Shey Phoksundo Lake. The journey is an unparalleled adventure into one of the world’s “Natural Hidden Wonders.”

Detailed itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our team will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. A short briefing about the trek will be provided. You can explore Thamel, a vibrant tourist hub, in the evening.

Embark on a guided sightseeing tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath. The afternoon will be spent preparing for the trek.

A scenic flight takes you to Nepalgunj, a bustling city in western Nepal. Explore the local markets and enjoy the warm Terai climate before the trek begins.

A short yet thrilling flight brings us to Juphal, the gateway to Dolpo. From here, we trek through terraced fields and small villages to reach Dunai, the district headquarters of Dolpa.

We follow the Bheri River through deep gorges, crossing suspension bridges and passing small settlements. Tarakot, once a fortress town, is home to an ancient monastery and offers scenic beauty.

Today’s trek continues along the Tarap River, passing terraced fields and traditional villages. Khanigaon is a picturesque settlement with stunning views of the surrounding hills.

As we ascend, the landscape becomes more rugged. We traverse pine and juniper forests, gradually reaching Chukore, a remote campsite amidst the Dolpo highlands.

The trail today leads through alpine meadows, with occasional yak herder settlements. The views of the surrounding mountains grow more spectacular as we approach Kamokharka.

Dho Tarap is one of the highest human settlements in the world. The village is deeply influenced by Tibetan culture and is home to ancient Buddhist and Bon monasteries.

We trek through high-altitude pasturelands before reaching Numa La Base Camp, preparing for the challenging high pass crossing the next day.

A challenging day as we ascend to Numa La, one of the trek’s highest points. The panoramic Himalayan views are breathtaking. A descent brings us to Baga La Base Camp.

Another high pass, Baga La, offers spectacular views. We descend into the beautiful Sanu Bheri Valley, surrounded by dramatic landscapes.

A gradual descent takes us to the pristine Shey Phoksundo Lake, known for its striking turquoise waters. The area is part of Shey Phoksundo National Park.

A rest day to explore the mystical surroundings of Shey Phoksundo Lake. Visit the nearby Tshowa Monastery, perched above the lake.

We trek through pine forests and Tibetan villages, entering the Pungmo Valley, which is home to Bonpo monasteries and traditional settlements.

Ascending towards the higher Himalayas, we reach Lasa Meadow, a grazing ground for yaks and a beautiful campsite.

The trail takes us through stunning landscapes, following the Garpung Khola River. This remote valley provides an authentic wilderness experience.

A long descent leads to Hurikot, a small settlement at a lower altitude, surrounded by lush forests.

We continue trekking through dense forests, camping at an isolated spot known as Forest Camp.

A steady descent takes us back to more temperate regions. Churta is a small settlement with terraced fields.

Our final trekking day leads to Jumla, marking the completion of this adventurous journey through Dolpo.

We take two connecting flights to return to Kathmandu, where you can relax or explore the city before your departure.
