The Helambu & Panch Pokhari Trek is a culturally rich and naturally stunning trek north of Kathmandu, offering a perfect blend of Sherpa and Tamang heritage, pristine forests, high mountain lakes, and breathtaking Himalayan views. While the Sherpas of Helambu share some similarities with their Everest-region cousins, their traditions and practices have distinct regional influences.
This trek is easily accessible from Kathmandu and takes you through dense rhododendron and pine forests, high ridges, remote villages, and the sacred Panch Pokhari (Five Lakes), a revered pilgrimage site for Hindus. The trek concludes at Sundarijal, a scenic gateway to Kathmandu, making it an ideal adventure for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience.

Final gear check and preparation for the trek.
A scenic drive through terraced fields and rolling hills to Chautara, the starting point of our trek. Chautara offers beautiful views of Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, and Ganesh Himal.
The trek begins with a gradual ascent through traditional Tamang villages and rhododendron forests. Phusre is a quiet settlement with stunning mountain vistas.
A challenging day with steep ascents, offering incredible views of the Jugal Himal range. We pass through forests rich in flora and fauna before reaching Chyojyo Danda, a scenic ridge.
A trek through high-altitude pastures and dense forests, with occasional sightings of Himalayan wildlife. Hile Phetti is a small yet picturesque stop for the night.
A crucial rest and acclimatization day to adjust to the altitude. We explore the surrounding ridges, enjoying magnificent views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Jugal Himal.
Today, we reach Panch Pokhari (Five Lakes), a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus. The turquoise lakes, nestled beneath towering peaks, create a mesmerizing setting. Overnight camping near the lake.
After enjoying sunrise over the pristine lakes, we descend to Haveli, passing through alpine meadows and yak grazing lands.
A scenic trail through rhododendron and oak forests leads us to Yangri, a traditional Tamang village with vibrant culture.
The trek follows gentle ridges and forests, arriving at Sermathang, a beautiful Sherpa village known for its monasteries and ancient Buddhist traditions.
We descend to Melamchi Gaon, passing by terraced farms and monasteries. The area is known for its rich Helambu Sherpa culture and breathtaking scenery.
We ascend through alpine landscapes to Mangengoth, an isolated spot surrounded by dense forests and grazing lands.
A steady descent through rhododendron forests and rolling hills, leading to Golphu Bhanjyang, a charming village with traditional Nepali architecture.
A gentle trek along ridges with panoramic views of the Langtang and Jugal Himal ranges. Chisopani is a stunning viewpoint for sunset and sunrise photography.
The final trekking day takes us through Shivapuri National Park, home to diverse wildlife and lush greenery. Upon reaching Sundarijal, we take a short drive back to Kathmandu.
Spend a relaxing day exploring Thamel, purchasing souvenirs, or visiting local attractions. Optional spa and massage treatments are available. A farewell dinner will be hosted in the evening.
