More Information
Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve holds a distinct identity due to the vast expanse of the Koshi River. While it was originally established to protect the remaining population of wild buffalo (locally known as Arna in Nepali), it has also gained recognition as a true paradise for birdwatchers. The reserve attracts a diverse range of bird species, including many that migrate from Siberia during the winter season—some of which are not found anywhere else in Nepal. Additionally, Koshi Tappu is home to several endangered species, including the Gharial crocodile and the Gangetic dolphin, along with various waterfowl such as ducks, herons, storks, egrets, and ibises.
