More Information
The Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is a classic and rewarding journey that follows the footsteps of early Everest expeditions. This trek offers an immersive experience, blending cultural exploration with breathtaking Himalayan scenery. Unlike the more common flight to Lukla, the Jiri route provides a gradual acclimatization, making it ideal for those who prefer a longer and more authentic trekking experience. The trail takes you through diverse landscapes, from lush lowlands inhabited by Brahmin, Chhetri, Magar, and Tamang communities to the high-altitude Sherpa settlements of the Solukhumbu region. Along the way, you will pass through Namche Bazaar, the renowned Tengboche Monastery, and the Khumbu Glacier, ultimately reaching the iconic Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and Kala Patthar (5,545m) for a spectacular view of Mount Everest (8,848m).
This trek is both challenging and rewarding, requiring good physical fitness and prior trekking experience. It showcases panoramic views of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Lhotse (8,516m), Cho Oyu (8,152m), Makalu (8,463m), and Ama Dablam (6,456m).
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore the vibrant streets of Thamel or relax after your journey. In the evening, we will conduct a trek briefing and welcome dinner.
Enjoy a guided cultural tour of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Final preparations for the trek will also be made.
A scenic drive through winding mountain roads takes us to Jiri, a small town known as the ‘Gateway to Everest’ before the Lukla flight became popular. The drive offers picturesque views of hills, rivers, and traditional villages.
The trek begins with an uphill climb through dense forests and terraced fields, passing traditional villages. The trail then descends to the village of Shivalaya.
A steep ascent leads to the Deurali Pass (2,705m), offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks before descending to Bhandar, a Sherpa and Tamang village with ancient monasteries.
The path continues downhill to Likhu Khola, crossing beautiful landscapes before ascending through forests to Sete, a charming village surrounded by rhododendron forests.
A challenging ascent leads to Lamjura La Pass (3,530m), the highest point before Namche, offering panoramic mountain views. We then descend to Junbesi, a picturesque Sherpa village.
After crossing the Solung ridge, we get our first distant view of Everest before descending through pine forests to Nhuntala.
A descent leads to Dudh Koshi River, followed by a climb through terraced fields and villages to Kharikhola, a settlement with Tibetan Buddhist influence.
We gradually ascend through forests and pass several Sherpa villages before reaching Surkhe, near the Lukla flight route.
