The Nar Phu Valley Trek is a hidden gem in Nepal's Annapurna region, perfect for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure. This newly opened trekking route offers an authentic Himalayan experience, showcasing the pristine beauty of the high-altitude terrain, ancient Tibetan culture, and awe-inspiring landscapes. The journey traverses through high peaks, glacial valleys, dramatic rock formations, and remote villages inhabited by ethnic Tibetans. Combining elements of the renowned Annapurna Circuit with untouched wilderness, this trek is a must for seasoned adventurers and Himalayan enthusiasts.

The trek begins with the classic Annapurna Circuit trail before veering off at Koto towards the secluded Nar and Phu valleys. As you ascend, the landscape transitions from lush forests to vast, arid plateaus dotted with ancient monasteries, high-altitude settlements, and grazing yaks. The highlight of the trek includes the breathtaking Kang La Pass (5,322m), which connects Nar with the Annapurna Circuit, offering panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Finally, the trek culminates with a crossing over the legendary Thorong La Pass (5,416m), descending into the revered pilgrimage site of Muktinath before concluding at Jomsom.

Detailed itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. You can explore the vibrant streets of Thamel or relax before the adventure begins. In the evening, there will be a trek briefing and welcome dinner.

A guided city tour covers UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. This cultural immersion provides insights into Nepal's rich history and traditions.

A scenic drive through terraced fields and river valleys leads to Besishahar, the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit. From here, we embark on a short trek to Ngadi, passing charming Gurung villages and lush greenery.

Following the Marsyangdi River, the trail ascends through forests and waterfalls to the stone-paved village of Jagat, an entry point to the restricted regions of the trek.

Today’s trail includes steep climbs and suspension bridge crossings. We pass through Chamje and climb towards Tal, a picturesque village by the river, before reaching Dharapani.

The trek progresses through rhododendron and pine forests, passing Tibetan-style villages before reaching Koto, the last settlement before entering the Nar Phu Valley.

Leaving the Annapurna Circuit, we follow a secluded trail along the Nar Khola River, crossing suspension bridges and navigating through dense forests to reach Dharamshala.

A rugged trail leads into the high Himalayan landscapes, passing waterfalls and remote pastures before reaching Kyang, a grazing settlement offering stunning mountain views.

Today, we enter the heart of the Phu Valley, passing chortens and mani walls. The medieval village of Phu Gaon provides a rare glimpse into Tibetan-influenced Himalayan life, with Tashi Lhakhang Monastery as a cultural highlight.

Exploring the village, visiting the monastery, and interacting with the locals help in acclimatization. The surrounding peaks offer excellent day hikes.

Descending to the junction of Nar and Phu valleys, we traverse rugged terrain, crossing suspension bridges before reaching Mahendra Pool.

We ascend towards Nar Gaon, another isolated village showcasing well-preserved Tibetan culture. The landscape becomes more barren, with yak pastures surrounding the settlement.

The trail climbs steadily through alpine meadows, offering views of the Annapurna massif. We rest at Kang La Phedi before the major pass crossing.

An early morning ascent to Kang La Pass rewards us with panoramic views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. A steep descent leads to Ngawal on the Annapurna Circuit.

A relaxed trek through the arid Manang Valley leads to the bustling town of Manang, a popular acclimatization stop for Annapurna Circuit trekkers.

The trail gradually gains altitude, passing through alpine landscapes and yak pastures before reaching Ledar, a small settlement near the Thorong La Pass base.

A short but steep trek brings us to Thorong Phedi, the last stop before the challenging Thorong La Pass crossing.

A strenuous climb to Thorong La Pass offers breathtaking mountain vistas. Descending into the Kali Gandaki Valley, we reach Muktinath, a revered pilgrimage site.

Descending through arid terrain and wind-swept landscapes, we reach Jomsom, the gateway to the Mustang region, known for its apple orchards and Tibetan culture.

A scenic morning flight over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges brings us to Pokhara. The rest of the day is free to explore the city’s lakes and cultural sites.

A short flight or drive back to Kathmandu marks the end of this extraordinary adventure. Transfer to the airport for onward travel.
